The crisis of democracy in Western societies and the rise of populism are often analysed as the result of governance by numbers, driven by neoliberal policies led by a technocracy working to transpose the methods of private enterprise to the public sphere, particularly to the judiciary.
At the same time, the new frontier of the law, the response to environmental challenges, is essentially drawn in numbers, curves, and quantified trajectories, which are legally enforceable.
As for the more traditional areas, numbers appear in reality to be unevenly understood and used to effectively contribute to the robustness of democratic choices as well as to the quality of judicial decisions.
The upcoming World Summit on AI will be held in Paris on 10 and 11 February. It will bring together a large number of heads of state and government for working and negotiation sessions.
The Presidence de la République and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have also selected and labelled "official parallel events" also organised on 11 February by civil society and intended to enrich this international reflection process.
Each labelled event will have to transmit its conclusions to the Summit organisers in order to prepare for the next Summit. In this context, the French Association de Philosophie du droit is responsible for organizing an official parallel round table on February 11 on the theme: The I. A, a factor of progress for the legal professions.
